How to maintain your 3D printer

A short, unglamorous maintenance routine that prevents most of the common failures.

Most avoidable printer problems come from three things: a dirty nozzle, a worn build surface, and loose belts — not firmware or slicer settings.

Wipe the nozzle at temperature every few prints, and keep a spare on hand since replacing one takes minutes but a clogged one can ruin a print halfway through.

Re-level the bed and clean the build surface with isopropyl alcohol whenever adhesion gets inconsistent, rather than compensating with more first-layer squish.

Check belt tension and frame fasteners every few weeks on machines that move quickly — a loose gantry shows up as ringing artifacts long before it becomes an obvious mechanical problem.
