Form 4

Overview

The Form 4 is Formlabs' mainstream professional stereolithography (SLA) printer, built around their Low Force Display (LFD) light engine — a 405 nm LED backlight array masked layer-by-layer through a Light Processing Unit, delivering 50 µm XY pixel resolution and layer thicknesses from roughly 25-200 microns. Formlabs rates print speed up to 100 mm/hour, with a typical average closer to 40 mm/hour depending on material and layer height — a notable step up from older laser-based Form printers. It's aimed at engineering, product design, dental, and manufacturing professionals who need high-detail, dimensionally accurate parts and functional prototypes, with cloud-based fleet management, remote print monitoring, and email/SMS alerts built in via Formlabs' Dashboard software. PreForm handles slicing and print preparation. The Form 4 is not a standalone box — it requires Formlabs' companion post-processing equipment, Form Wash for IPA cleaning and Form Cure for UV/heat post-curing, to produce parts with correct mechanical properties and finish, and it uses a flexible-film resin tank with Formlabs' own resin cartridges, which locks users into Formlabs' material ecosystem and recurring consumables cost.
