Overview
The Form Studio 1 is Formlabs' first consumer-priced resin printer, using a new Low Force Display (LFD) print engine built around a custom lens array and 28 LEDs rather than the Form 4's larger backlight unit. It has a 200 x 125 x 235 mm (~5.9 L) build volume with 35 µm XY pixels and layer heights from roughly 25-250 microns depending on resin, and Formlabs says most jobs finish in under two hours - rating print speed up to 130 mm/hour with its fast resin, versus a typical average closer to 40 mm/hour at 100 µm layers. It's built for hands-off home and small-studio use rather than engineering workflows: resin handling is fully automatic and heated (cartridge-based, no manual pouring), there's a 7" touchscreen with a 7-language UI, and a built-in camera for remote monitoring and time-lapses that can be disabled. It connects over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB-C 2.0, and is managed through PreForm, Formlabs Dashboard, and a new Form Mobile app - but it does not support third-party slicers or print-prep software. Form Studio 1 officially supports 9 Formlabs materials (versus 22 on the Form 4), though an included Open Material Mode allows printing with any 405 nm third-party resin at no license fee - full compatibility calls for the optional Resin Tank Pro. Formlabs also markets it with UL GREENGUARD Gold certification (achieved when run with its new Alpha Resins and a VOC Extractor), which it calls a first for a resin 3D printer. A companion Studio Wash+Cure post-processing station is sold separately or bundled.
