Overview
The Fuse 1+ 30W is Formlabs' selective laser sintering (SLS) system, using a 30 W ytterbium fiber laser with a 200-micron spot size to fuse nylon (PA12 and related) powder into functional parts without the need for support structures, since unfused powder itself supports each layer. Its 165 x 165 x 300 mm build volume and 110-micron layer thickness put it in the benchtop/prosumer SLS category, positioned for engineering teams, product designers, and small manufacturers who need batches of strong, isotropic nylon parts rather than single prototypes. Formlabs reports the 30 W laser and updated software make it roughly three times faster than the original 10 W Fuse 1, with typical full builds finishing in around seven hours. The system's resolution and material properties make it suitable for end-use parts, jigs, fixtures, and complex geometries like lattices that FDM or SLA can't easily produce. The Fuse 1+ is not a standalone machine — it requires the companion Fuse Sift post-processing station for safe powder removal, recovery, and mixing of used with fresh powder, plus adequate ventilation for handling nylon powder. Expect added workflow steps, dedicated space, and consumable powder costs beyond the printer's own price.
